History

Each paragraph says whether it is documented history, a tradition handed down, or disputed.

  • Documented

It was begun in 1226 under Ferdinand III, modelled on Bourges Cathedral; its five-aisled plan covers the sacred space of the former city mosque, and the cloister its courtyard. The vaults of the central nave were finished in 1493.
